Presentation: BABOK v3 and the Future of Business Analysis

Businesses are looking for a new breed of Business Analyst: one that creates business solutions and ensures that change initiatives deliver business value. This means expanding the BA role from a focus on requirements management and project success to focus on business success, which requires strategic thinking and the ability to drive organizational innovation and improvement.

Kevin discusses how the BABOK® Guide v3 supports this direction by including new and improved information on the performance of business analysis at all levels of the enterprise, from strategic change and business architecture to the delivery of process improvement and business systems.

Kevin Brennan, CBAP, PMP, is the Chief Business Analyst and Executive Vice President for IIBA®. He led the development of Version 2.0 of The Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® (BABOK® Guide) and was also one of the authors of the CBAP exam. He is a frequent speaker on business analysis, project management, and software quality assurance topics at conferences.

It's Time to Stop Making the Right Choice: How to Liberate Decision-Making on Projects

Decisions are made many times by many people through the course of a project. They are the key activity that allows forward progress to be made. But why is it that decision making is often so stressful, problematic and personal? Why do we make such a big deal over decisions every single day?

This session will cover:

  • identifying the key mindset that is at the heart of the way we make decisions in business and life in general
  • understanding how this mindset creates many of the problems we experience with decision making
  • gain an appreciation of how to prevent emotions and ideologies from affecting the quality of decision making
  • developing a new mindset that allows decision making to become more effective, more responsive and less stressful

You will take away:

  • tips on developing a decision making culture that will make your organisation more agile and responsive
  • insight into how you can provide true leadership of others in a different way when decisions are being made
  • an understanding of how real business change can be made by adopting a new mindset towards decision making
  • a method of thinking that will have positive implications for both your work life and personal life.

And finally, you will be learning something new about Batman.

John Hackett is an Organisational Change Alchemist. He is the founder and Managing Director of Franklin-Hackett Ltd.

John spent most of his early career working in a variety of roles such as business analysis, project management, customer service strategy, training and contact centre management. He gained first-hand experience of the effects of change programmes on organisations and individuals. Through this experience, he was able to identify the main reasons for the failure of the majority of these interventions. His profound insight is that successful and sustainable change comes from being able to fully understand the procedural and human elements in any given situation then employ the most appropriate tools to drive progress.

Using this experience, John has created "Change Alchemy" - an approach to change that takes into account both process design and the functioning of people within an organisation.

He currently specialises in delivering radical, lasting and transformative change by helping businesses adopt new mindsets and new ways of working.

This event was hosted and sponsored by Care Quality Commission.
