Kent introduces content from and answers questions relating to his latest book - Beyond Requirements: Analysis with an Agile Mindset. The book paints a picture of analysis in projects and how it can be applied to make those projects more effective. For the purposes of the book, analysis can be thought of as the activities involved with:

  • understanding stakeholder needs
  • identifying constraints on solutions that satisfy those needs
  • identifying potential solutions
  • describing the most preferred solution

These activities form an important part of the overall effort to deliver solutions that best meet stakeholder needs. Kent's experiences over the past ten years have shown that performing these activities with an agile mindset best positions teams to satisfy stakeholder needs. As a result, Kent assumes that people are approaching work with an agile mindset (which is up to each individual to adopt) and that they are using agile techniques. Most of the techniques described in the book can also be used in other environments of course, but they're most effective when used with agile approaches.
