BA Careers and Beyond

Jo and Lawrence look into the traditional and (not so) traditional BA career paths drawing from industry and personal experience. This session aims to show that the variety of skills a BA possesses provides great advantages in pursuing a diversified career.

Jo Solecki has worked in both private and public sector in the business improvement arena, initially starting out at Marconi on their graduate scheme. Jo has since worked as a business analyst in Capita and DWP before moving to higher Education and Sheffield Hallam University. Jo progressed to BA Manager and is now Head of Strategic Portfolio and Business Change which involves managing both Project Managers and Business Analysts to deliver Strategic change.

Lawrence Darvill is a Director of both Assist Knowledge Development and the UK BA Manager Forum. He has a background in HR and staffing and has completed research into the higher level capabilities of BAs working as internal consultants. His research has helped establish the Expert BA Award and develop an on-line career management tool for business analysts. More recently Lawrence played a lead role in establishing the BA Apprenticeship Standard. Lawrence works with organisations to provide guidance on developing BA capability and with individuals in their career planning.
