This event is the first virtual event for IIBA UK and merges offline and online through a community that will support you in your certification journey before, during and after the event.
There are a variety of certifications and qualifications available to business analysts today. The main independent offerings are the BA Diploma from BCS (formerly ISEB) or the CCBA or CBAP from IIBA. It doesn't sound complicated but, as the profession is still maturing, identifying the right option for you is far from obvious. You could always ask more senior BA's for an opinion but beware you may get as many answers as there are options! Even if you have decided, you may still be wondering how to keep the costs down and invest your time to best effect.
This event attempts to provide an independent answer to these questions and more. It will explain the certifications, who they are for and how you should approach them. It draws on the results of a separate questionnaire and a series of interviews to answer more subjective questions like:
Business Analyst Mentor was founded by Alex Papworth in 2008. Its vision is to accelerate the development of business analysts by providing access to the experience and knowledge of the BA community. There are several initiatives under way but one to one mentoring is the current focus. Alex, Malcolm and Nick have collaborated to research and design this event and to provide an independent view of certifications that focuses on the needs of the business analyst. Malcolm and Nick also both offer their services as mentors through Business Analyst Mentor.
Alex Papworth has worked in IT since the early 90's and has spent the last 12 years as a freelance BA. He served on the IIBA UK Chapter board as Director and President for over 2 years and is now an active volunteer. He has spoken at the BA Conference in the UK and the US.
Nick de Voil has been working in IT for 30 years, and with his own company for 25 of those years. He has a wealth of experience gained mainly in investment banking and the public sector. Nick has always gained great satisfaction from helping others develop which is why he works with Business Analyst Mentor in helping business analysts develop themselves professionally.
Malcolm Eva has worked in the fields of systems analysis and business analysis since 1985, working in organisations including Ministry of Defence and BT, Bank of Ireland, Intel and O2 with a strong focus on training. He was a part of the team who initially designed and developed the Business Analysis Diploma programme, run under the aegis of ISEB, a branch of BCS.
Paul Turner FBCS is a Director of AssistKD. He specialises in the provision of training and consultancy in Business Analysis. He has been involved in the IIBA UK Chapter since its inception presenting at various conferences. Paul has worked on a range of certification schemes providing consultancy to a number of qualification awarding bodies. He is a BCS/ISEB examiner and co-author of the publication Business Analysis Techniques (72 essential tools for success). His organisation is accredited by both BCS/ISEB and IIBA for the provision of BA courses.
Suzanne Bertschi is the Product Manager of Certification for IIBA . In this role, Suzanne is accountable for the operational management of the certification and re-certification programs. Previously, Suzanne was a Sr. Business Systems Consultant at Sun Life Financial, responsible for business analysis and, for business analysis process improvement, training and coaching. Suzanne has over 14 years of experience in the financial services industry and in IT. Suzanne has a BComm degree from Carleton University.
