Date: 28 Mar 2012

This event is the first virtual event for IIBA UK and merges offline and online through a community that will support you in your certification journey before, during and after the event.

There are a variety of certifications and qualifications available to business analysts today. The main independent offerings are the BA Diploma from BCS (formerly ISEB) or the CCBA or CBAP from IIBA. It doesn't sound complicated but, as the profession is still maturing, identifying the right option for you is far from obvious. You could always ask more senior BA's for an opinion but beware you may get as many answers as there are options! Even if you have decided, you may still be wondering how to keep the costs down and invest your time to best effect.

This event attempts to provide an independent answer to these questions and more. It will explain the certifications, who they are for and how you should approach them. It draws on the results of a separate questionnaire and a series of interviews to answer more subjective questions like:

  • Will this help me get my next job or increase my chances of promotion?
  • Which one is most highly regarded?
  • How do I approach it to maximize my chances of success?

Business Analyst Mentor was founded by Alex Papworth in 2008. Its vision is to accelerate the development of business analysts by providing access to the experience and knowledge of the BA community. There are several initiatives under way but one to one mentoring is the current focus. Alex, Malcolm and Nick have collaborated to research and design this event and to provide an independent view of certifications that focuses on the needs of the business analyst. Malcolm and Nick also both offer their services as mentors through Business Analyst Mentor.

Nick de Voil has been working in IT for 30 years, and with his own company for 25 of those years. He has a wealth of experience gained mainly in investment banking and the public sector. Nick has always gained great satisfaction from helping others develop which is why he works with Business Analyst Mentor in helping business analysts develop themselves professionally.
