As DevOps continually gathers momentum and enterprises increase their investment in this delivery approach Michelle and James are asking the following questions: “What impact can DevOps have on the future of Business Analyst profession? Should BAs be worried? Does DevOps represent an evolutionary jump in the world of project delivery and if yes how should the Business Analysis community respond? Michelle and James will attempt to answer those questions based on results of their research, knowledge and experience.
Przemyslaw (James) Ciesluk is an accomplished Senior Business Analyst with over 15 years of experience in Business Analysis and software development. James started his career as a software designer working for consumer electronics companies (DSPG, Phillips PDSL) quickly moving into the field of Business Analysis. In his 13+ years as a Business Analyst, James has worked in a number of business sectors including airlines industry (Air Canada, KLM and United Arab Emirates), public services sector (HMRC in the UK) and Financial Services sector (Zurich Insurance plc).
Michelle Shakesheff is the Business Analyst Manager at Zurich, leading a team of over 40 BAs. She has over ten years’ experience of running BA shared services in the financial services and automotive industries.
Michelle is also a longstanding member of the Business Analyst Manager Forum, and is on several BCS Business Analysis panels, providing input to the future of business analysis training and certification in the UK and worldwide. In March 2017 she was made a Silver Partner of the BCS; the first time an individual has gained Partner status. Michelle is also a mentor with the IIBA UK Mentoring Scheme.
It has often been said that we live in an increasingly volatile, complex and ambiguous world. The external business environment is complex and fast-moving, yet often our stakeholders are blindsided by ‘silver-bullet’ solutions that assume a neat linear relationship between cause and effect.
In reality, things are rarely neat and linear. More often we’ll find that situations are devilishly difficult, requiring us to understand and engage with a whole range of messy interconnected issues and perspectives.
